Little Blue Truck goes to the city, only to discover that the city is really fast, noisy, and everyone is in a hurry. When all the vehicles get stuck in a big traffic jam, Little Blue Truck shows how patience, politeness, and working together can save the day!
This 37-page unit is to be used along with the book by Alice Schertle and Jill McElmurry.
This download can be used to address many different speech goals. *Book not included, please buy or borrow from your school library.
What Should I Use This For?
I've created this book companion to "Little Blue Truck Leads the Way" as a fun Transportation-themed unit. It involves minimal prep and can address a wide range of speech and language goals. It also includes lots of Transportation vocabulary as an extra learning objective.
Story Comprehension Cards (20 cards + 4 empty): Cut apart and mix up cards. After reading the story, have students answer the comprehension questions on each card by choosing the correct picture.
Let’s Go To The… (City vs. Country Sorting Mats): Cut apart and mix up pictures on pg. 9. Students sort pictures into the correct mat depending on whether the picture is something they would see in the city or in the country.
Time To Rhyme (worksheet): Cut and paste worksheet. Students match rhyming pictures.
Traffic Jam (worksheet): Students fill in the chart on the POLICE REPORT to help the officer record all the different types of vehicles caught in this traffic jam.
Word Association Crates (18 cards): Cut crates apart and mix up cards. Each crate features a set of association pictures. Have students find the matches and explain why they go together.
Transportation BINGO: (5 mats and teacher cards): Students play Bingo while learning different types of transportation vocabulary words.
Little Blue Truck Leads The Way Vocabulary (worksheet): Students circle the correct picture that matches each story vocabulary word and a square around the incorrect pictures.
Sequencing & Retell Booklet (10 pages): Cut apart and staple truck-shaped booklet together. Cut out pictures on page 27 and have students paste into the booklet in the correct order of the story. Send home for retell practice.
Air, Land & Sea Sorting Mat: Students cut out the transportation pictures on pg. 29 and place them into the correct locations on the sorting mat depending on where you would find each picture.
Syllable Counting 1-2-3 (Worksheet): Students practice phonological awareness by clapping or counting 1-3 syllable words and filling in the correct number of syllables for each picture.
Popsicle Stick Story Props: Cut out and glue onto large popsicle sticks. Students can practice retelling the story using the pictures props.
