Do you love working on nursery rhymes with your preschool students? Reading a nursery rhyme and utilizing interactive therapy materials can make for a nice push in to the classroom speech and language session! The best part is that this mini unit is complete with a nursery rhyme story, comprehension questions, and more!
• One Little Miss Muffet nursery rhyme book with visuals.
• One set of visual supports to use alongside reading the nursery rhyme book.
• One set of nine comprehension questions including visual supports for correct answers.
• One set of nine rhyming questions with two answer choices.
• One set of sequencing cards – first, second, then, and last along with number cards (1-4). Visuals included.
• Preposition visuals – above, below, beside, next to, between, on, in front, behind
• One set of nine Little Miss Muffet preposition cards.
• Read the book aloud to students.
• Allow one student to be in charge of Little Miss Muffet, one student to be in charge of the spider, and another student to be in charge of the curds and whey. Use the tree page as a background for these visual supports.
• Have the student rotate roles and read the story as many times as needed.
• Ask comprehension questions to assess student’s comprehension of the story, have the students sequence the story using the visual supports, and ask the students to receptively identify (point to) or expressively identify (verbally producing) the correct prepositions using the Little Miss Muffet preposition cards. Use the preposition visuals for support.
• Introduce rhyming words by offering choices (e.g. “what word rhymes with kiss – miss or muffet?”).
