Do you read nursery rhymes with your students?
I plug in nursery rhymes whenever I can; so during our spider theme in October, my young fives enjoy learning “Little Miss Muffet”.
This “rhyme time” wheel, is a quick, easy & fun way to help practice the “retelling & sequencing a story” standards.
So that teachers can easily make a sample to share, I’ve included full color templates, as well as black & white patterns, so your students can color and make their own.
Each of my nursery rhyme packets contains background information on the nursery rhyme, along with a colorful anchor chart poster of the poem.
I’ve included a BW version for students, to help practice reading and whatever other skills you are working on.
For example, using these nursery rhyme worksheets, beginning readers can circle rhyming words, plus any sight words you are working on.
Reinforce spelling, by having children underline “silent e” words; 1, 2 or 3 syllable words; or long and short vowels etc.
When everyone has completed their wheel craftivity, take a moment to retell the story as a whole group. Start by turning the wheel to the picture of Little Miss Muffet, then call on a student to explain what’s going on in that graphic.
For further reinforcement, have children pick a partner and take turns sharing their wheels with each other. Sometimes we do this with our older, reading buddies.
For writing practice, and to check comprehension, have students complete the “If a spider sat down beside me…” writing prompt worksheet, then color it.
There’s a full color pattern, so you can quickly make an example to share, or do as a whole group activity with little ones.
I hope your students enjoy making a rhyme time wheel as much as mine do. Wishing you a fun-filled time “turning & learning”.
