This activity packet was designed to be used with the book 'The Little Old Lady Who Was Not Afraid Of Anything' by Linda Williams (The book is not included).
This packet includes 5 different items/activities:
1. Picture cards (Basic vocabulary from the book)
2. Story retell scene
3. Playdoh smash mats (Basic vocabulary)
4. Playdoh smash mat/bingo chip boards (open ended boards for reinforcement)
5. Roll the Die Comprehension Activity (Yes/no, who, what, where comprehension question activity)
These items should be printed in color and are intended to support read-alouds and comprehension activities related to this book. Please see below for how to use each activity and further detail about what is included.
Picture Cards (pages 4-5 ) Print and laminate the picture cards (included: shoes, pants, shirt, hat, gloves, jack-o-lantern, cottage, moon, basket, little old lady, scarecrow and forest). Use the cards on a felt board as you read the story, print them twice and play memory-match, or use them as a visual support for answering “wh” questions
Story Retell Scene (pages 6-8 ) Print both pages and tape them together to form one scene. Use the characters on page 6 to retell the story using the scene. Secure the little old lady character to a popsicle stick for a fun retelling experience!
Playdoh Smash Mat (page 9) Print and laminate the mat. Use this mat to work on building basic vocabulary, answering yes/no and “wh” questions, or describing (vocabulary included: gloves, pants, hat, little old lady, shoes, jack-o-lantern, shirt and scarecrow).
Open ended Mats (pages 10-11) Print and laminate the mats. Use with playdoh or bingo chips as a reinforcement activity. For students who can read, write a student’s targeted vocabulary or articulation words in each pumpkin. There are 10 spaces on each mat.
Roll the Die Comprehension Activity (pages 12-17) Make the die on page 12.. Cut out and laminate the comprehension questions (yes/no and who, what, where questions are included). Roll the die and pick a card with the corresponding picture, then answer the question. If the student answers correctly they keep the card. The player who collects the most cards wins!
Example yes/no question: Did the little old lady go to the zoo? (No). There are 12 yes/no questions.
Example "Wh" questions: Who says BOO BOO? (Jack-o-lantern), What did the little old lady put her herbs and nuts in? (basket), where do you put a hat? (on your head). Answers are not included on the picture cards. There are 6 who questions, 4 what questions and 8 where questions.
