Mrs Pepperpot un-expectantly shrinks to the size of a pepperpot one day and also develops the ability to communicate with animals. She has many incredible adventures along the way that can be read about in self-contained chapters (ideal I would say for reading at bed at night) like the Mary Poppins stories. Mrs Pepperpot is a wise, generous but sometimes surly character created by Alf Proysen in post war Norway. A champion of the rural poor , there is a hint of old style folk tale about his story and his characters. I tend not to read the non-Pepperpot stories in the book although there is a certain charm to them. Many of his books are in print although I prefer the illustrations in the old ones. There is also an animated TV series. My students enjoyed these little tales. This is a Blooms taxonomy literature unit.
