Little Red Hen - Her Kindergarten Adventure

Looking for a fun way to teach sequencing and retelling? Use our Little Red Hen book! Students will create their own copies to take home to read and can use the writing journal to retell this classic tale.

There are two sets of student pages to choose from. The first set has only one word per page for the students to write by either copying or sounding out themselves. The second set has more words per page along with a character page. (Please see the Preview for samples.) Included are 4 characters to use for puppets to use when rereading the book.

This book set also includes a writing journal!

The children can sequence the story in their very own journal. There are two sets of pages, one for beginner writers with only one word on the page for them to trace over. There also is clipart on the pages for easier rebus reading!

The second set of pages has several words on each page for the students to write, such as “Who” and a question mark. Great for teaching about interrogative sentences! (Please see the Preview for samples of blank and finished pages.) Little Red Hen - A Writing Journal can be purchased separately.

Included are all the reproducible blackline masters, full directions, and a color photo page showing the completed pages of the book.

The children create a page a day, using the collage technique.  The students follow directions to create the illustration out of construction paper.  Included are the complete cutting directions for making circles and ovals from squares and rectangles by trimming off the corners.   All you do is cut squares and rectangles on your paper cutter for the pages.  The rest is up to the children!  Very little teacher time for prepping and no patterns or tracers to create!  


There is at least one word on each page for the students to write.  We sound the word out together as a class and then the children can copy it from the board or try sounding it out themselves. 


When we are finished with the book, we use it at our reading station in place of the published books from our reading program before sending the books home. The teacher's copy can be laminated and placed in the class library for the children to read over and over during the year. The children love using their own books and take great pride in them!
