Product Description
This is the perfect mini-unit to accompany picture book, The Little Shop of Monsters by Marc Brown and R.L Stine. Create a gallery of monsters with the Monster Glyphs, then use the book as a mentor text to inspire writing. The authors have given us so many great possibilities — my 4th and 5th graders picked up on the author’s voice, while my 2nd and 3rd graders focused on the descriptive writing.

You can use the glyph directions I've provided (based on reading interests) or write your own in an editable PowerPoint file.

Once the students create their monsters, have them write about them. I’ve provided several brainstorming and writing templates to get your kids writing.

I've used this mini-unit with students in grades K-5. Choose the writing template that is most appropriate for your students, and use them monster shape templates I've provided or guide students thought cutting their own by cutting the corners off squares. Either way, the monsters will be unique creations.
