This is a lesson about teaching the rhythm of iambic pentameter. I use this as part of my introduction to Romeo & Juliet, but it would also work as an introduction to a poetry unit. The sentence that students will be putting together is from Romeo & Juliet. Every time I have taught this lesson students get really excited and aren’t as scared by iambic pentameter. The activity asks students to physically demonstrate iambic pentameter and then by identifying stresses in poems.
