This activity is perfect for Black History Month! Bringing the Underground Railroad to life was incredibly important for my students to understand the threats and hardships African Americans faced during this time. Reading a book and discussions did not do enough to help them understand how different things were, and how others were treated unfairly.
This was originally created as a lesson for first graders during my student teaching experience. Once I started teaching, however, I was asked to adjust it so that our entire school could participate. You will find the actual lesson plan, markers and cover sheets, as well as assessments for grades 1-5 and answer keys.
