I have included numerous cards so you can complete this activity many times.
Choose which “living/nonliving” cards you want to use. If this is the first time you have completed the activity you may want to use the cards with a picture example. This will give your students a point of reference.
Give your students the definitions of living and nonliving that are developmentally appropriate for them. Example- Something is living if it eats, it breathes (or needs air) and it grows.
Select some of the cards and have the students sort them. When students are putting the cards under the correct category have them explain WHY it belongs in that area.
After completing the activity multiple times I have provided 5 different assessments. You may choose to complete a paper assessment or have you students sort the cards again individually (using the labels without pictures.)
*Please note that this activity can be completed in 30 minutes, but their are over 70 cards so you can complete this activity numerous times!
* Did you know that you can earn credits towards future TPT purchases if you leave feedback? Your feedback is greatly appreciated!!
