This bundle of two long division resources focuses on introducing students to the traditional algorithm for division.
- a 32-slide interactive PowerPoint
- a craftivity
The PowerPoint is highly interactive. It begins with a review of division terms (dividend, divisor, and quotient) and a division story problem that involves a remainder. Next, the acronym "Does McDonald's Serve Burgers?" is presented to teach students the sequence: divide, multiply, subtract, & bring down.
After the introduction section, SEVERAL practice opportunities are presented. There are 6 problems that involved a two-digit dividend, and 5 problems that involve a three-digit dividend. Ample support is provided in the form of arrows, and animated text boxes. (The PowerPoint is also fully animated, so that answers do not appear on the screen until the teacher has clicked the mouse.) This file also contains a 3-page PowerPoint companion handout
. Students can write on their handout, recording answers, as you progress through the PowerPoint.
The craftivity (that includes four long division story problems), is an ideal follow-up activity, and the craftivity can be hung on a bulletin board or in the hallway- they create a fun display!
**Please note: the PowerPoint cannot be edited due to the copyright requirements made by the contributing artists (clip art, font, backgrounds).
