This pack is designed to help kids become confident reading words with the long o sound. Includes:
24 word cards with 24 matching picture cards
Fun variations on the class Memory/Concentration game.
A vowel sort according to spelling patterns (oa as in boat, oe as in toe, ow as in bow, o as in go, and silent e as in cone.)
A self-checking activity. If you cut so the matching picture and word stay together and fold in the middle, you'll have cards with the word on one side and the picture on the other side. Students can look at the word, attempt to read it, and then check their reading by looking at the picture on the back. Students can also look at the picture, attempt to spell it, and then look at the word to check their work. I love to have kids work with partners. The "teacher" shows the picture and tells their partner which vowel team the word is spelled with. The partner then writes the word.
An activity where children use these word cards to read and write additional words.
(Consonant clusters are included on some of the cards.)
Aligns with the following Common Core Standards:
ELA-Literacy.RF.1.3c Know final -e and common vowel team conventions for representing long vowel sounds.
ELA-Literacy.RF.K.3b Associate the long and short vowel sounds with the common spellings for the five major vowels.
