Learn/ practice reading words that have long vowel sounds! Classify the words as having a long vowel because of a silent e or because two vowels are walking and the first is doing the talking!
You will need to make two dice. One will have SE (silent E) on 3 sides and 2VW (2 vowels walking) on the other 3 sides. The second die will have the vowels A, E, I, O, U (A twice).
Each child starts with two cards face up on the table. Each child reads aloud his/her cards. Children take turns rolling the dice. If a child has a word that fits the dice roll, s/he may read the word, turn over that card and get a new card. When the game ends (determined by adult or certain number of rolls per child) the winner is the person who was able to turn over the most cards.
