This activity can be used to challenge students who already know their long vowel sounds or as practice for students who are learning their long vowel sounds. When I use it as a challenge for my higher students, I cut the words off the bottom so that they have to think of the word themselves. They then check their own work with the word list from the bottom when they're finished. This can be a independent activity or used with partners. This activity can also be used with the word box for students who are practicing or learning their long vowels.
