Simply print out the 21 pages, cut the plain words apart and make 7 envelopes of lotto-like match-up games. Print an extra set of word cards to have more advanced students use with the “pictures only cards”. Students must read the word cards to match them on the colorful board with pictures and words. There are small numbers on each word card so that it is easy to sort them if the word tiles become mixed up.

This activity requires very little prep time and can be used and reused in many settings. Each of these 7 picture and picture/word cards has 16 pictures of “long vowel words.” Each card has a matching set of “words only” flash cards. For differentiating student skill levels, there is a set of cards with pictures only. These cards may be used with an extra set of flash cards or be laminated and used with a thin dry erase marker. This activity motivates students learning through tutoring, reading centers, cooperating with peers, parent volunteers, or independent study.
I have used watercolors to paint most of my illustrations, and have recently been constructing clip art using images of colorful pasta to make them more interesting. I hope your students will enjoy this activity.
