Slow Down and Stay on the Road! A Differentiated -OA and -OW Vowel Team Game for Small Groups by Learning Moore in First is a motivating and fun way for students to practice their fluency and phonics skills.
Two sets of cards are included, one for on-level/ below level learners (orange cards) and the other is for more advanced readers (green cards).
To play, shuffle and stack the cards where all players can reach and set the race track game board in the center of the playing surface. Each player will need a chip or counter of a different color to use as a pawn to move around the race track.
Each player takes a turn flipping over a card and reading the word, moving forward the amount of spaces the card says.
Then the players follow the directions on the space their counter lands on, using the word from the card they drew to complete the task on the race track space.
If a player cannot complete the task they have to move back to the space they were on before they drew the card.
Players continue the game until they have done two laps.
The first player to go around the track twice and pass the finish line is the winner!
