This is an assessment tool ideal for special education, reading resource, or RtI providers. All 5 long vowel sounds are assessed in this data form. The teacher gives the student the words, the child reads the words, and the teacher listens and marks + or - next to each corresponding word on the data sheet.
The following vowel patterns are present:
long a (ace, eigh, ey, ade, ail, ain, ake, ame, ave)
long e (eat, eed. eet. eam, eel, ief)
long i (ice, ie, ike, ine, ing, y, igh, ight) (note: ing is not a long i sound -it's a connected sound- but it has been included as an i pattern!)
long o (oat, oke, ook, one)
long u (une, ue, ew, oo)
There are a total of 151 words. You can check for student accuracy up to 6 times per year, and you can assess individual vowels separately. Ideal for progress monitoring, updating IEP goals, and formative assessment!!
I recommend that you laminate the student words, as well as an 11' x 17' piece of colored construction paper. Fold the construction paper in half, and cut out a 1/2' window along the front page. Insert the laminated student pages and voila! Students just slide the page up after they read every 3 words.
