This Long Vowels Go Fish Game will keep your students engaged and on task! Students love to play games and they won't even realize they are learning at the same time. Students play this game just like Go Fish. The object of the game is to collect the most matches.
There are 281 different long vowels word cards. Each card includes a long vowel word and a matching picture. Cards come in color and black and white. Each different vowel is color coded to help keep your cards organized. Explicit directions on how to print the cards and play the game are also included.
Long a: a_e, ai, ay (83 cards)
Long e: ea, ee (49 cards)
Long i: i_e, ie, igh, y (56 cards)
Long o: o_e, oa, oe, ow (62 cards)
Long u: u_e, ew, ue, ui (31 cards)
A plethora of research has proven that learning games in the classroom instinctively conveys meaningful content. Students are motivated to learn when they are excited and captivated.
Preparation is simple! Just print each card back to back, laminate for durability, and cut out the cards. The cards print close together, so they are quick to cut out. I like to print in color on cardstock, but you can also print on copy paper and in black and white. Print two or four copies of each page, depending on how many cards you want to use in each game. You can use just one vowel per game or some of them or all of them, depending on how challenging you want the games to be. Prep these cards once and use them forever!
