This product includes 11 activities interchangeably great for independent work, literacy centers, and assessments. These activities focus on long (a,a_e, ai, ay). Each activity has a cover page.
The activities are described as follows:
There are 16 photo cards with long "a"pictures with corresponding 16 word cards. These long "a" words have various spellings including a_e, ay and ai.
Photo Sort: Long "a"VS. Short "a"
This is a flower theme activity where students can sort sounds by photos to determine if they make the long "a"sound or the short "a" sound.
Read the Room
Get up and read! Who doesn’t love a good read the room? This particular read the room focuses on long "a" words of various spellings. There are 16 word cards and two differentiated options for response sheets.
Word and Picture Match
In this activity the students will read the long "a" word on the bee and match it to the corresponding picture on a flower.
Long "a" Cut and Paste
There are 7 different cut and paste activities. Students will complete the missing long "a" sound in familiar words.
Rhyme with Long "a"
There are four rhyming mats where students can pick from various photo cards to match rhymes with long "a".
I have, Who has
I have, Who has, is a classroom favorite. This particular version will have students reading words with long "a" of multiple spellings. Including are 24 playing cards.
Spin a Word
Use a paper clip and a pencil to turn these mats into fun spinners for small groups or a great word work center. Included are 5 different spinner options that have long "a" words that follow different rules: a_e, ai, ay. There is also a response mat for each spinner.
Roll & Read
All you need is the mat and a die and you have a perfect literacy center. Students will roll the dice match the number and read the words in that row then repeat! Included are 5 different mats with long "a"words.
Emergent Reader: A Train’s Day
A Train’s day is a great emergent reader to introduce or practice the long "a"sound. It is a repetitive text with illustrations to help students with unfamiliar words. This reader has 8 pages.
Included are 2 different version of exit tickets, 6 total. With one exit ticket students will determine if a picture has a long "a" sound and circle the photo. On the other students will have the option to say a picture name and write the long "a" word.
