Long vowels pocket chart sort. This activity is a great literacy station activity but can be used a variety of ways in whole group and small group. Use this activity to teach/review long vowels one at a time or sort between different long vowel sounds. Use along with the short vowel pocket chart sort to sort between short and long vowel sounds.
I have a "phonics station" as one of my literacy centers. I set up the word family sorting mats in the pocket chart and then students say and sort each word card. This allows them practice reading and recognizing long vowels and new words. I also include magnetic letters in this station for students to practice spelling each word card.
