Are you looking for remote teaching activities to teach decoding skills this Fall? These 30 digital, interactive task cards on the BOOM learning site are great for teaching short and long vowels!

Students are given two single syllable words, and are asked to drag and drop each word into either the long vowel or short vowel box. Words with short vowels include the cvc pattern (consonant-vowel-consonant, as in the word “cat”), as well as words with blends and digraphs. Words with long vowels include the "magic-e" rule (or vce, as in the word “gate”), or a variety of vowel teams and other irregular spellings for long vowel sounds (i.e.: “night”).

These digital task cards can be accessed on a laptop, desktop, Chromebook, tablet, or any other mobile device that is able to access the internet. They can also be used on your Smartboard, so that the whole class can play. The most exciting things about these cards is that they are self-grading, allow you to track student progress and require no prep (no need to print, laminate or store).

This product includes:

  • A link to access 30 Digital Task Cards on long and short vowels on the BOOM Learning website
  • Teacher Notes on how to use these BOOM Cards in your classroom

Please take a look at the thumbnail images and the preview file above to get a better idea of what the digital cards look like.
