Do you find teaching long division to be difficult and frustrating for you and your students? Do you find that there are just too many hands up with questions like "I forget how to do it," and "What do I do now?" or "I can't do this." I have found that most math books don't spend enough time breaking the steps for long division down into manageable pieces. So I've created a long division mini unit with different activities that spreads out the skills and process over a period of 5 days.
This unit also contains division worksheets for homework for 5 days that have clear directions and examples of problems that have fewer steps for the first few days. I have found that these activities and long division worksheets help children get more out of practice each day, and they help parents feel less frustrated than 2 weeks of typical drill sheets. Update: Teachers Pay Teachers has included a digital overlay. This means you can upload it directly to your Google Classroom from this site. Students can type answers in the boxes provided. They can use the pen tool circle chosen answers.
To complete the activities in this packet, you will need the following materials (not included)
► Division flash cards
► Sentence strips
► Large white construction paper (11x17 or even legal size paper is fine)
► Index cards
