Hello teachers! Thank you so much for your download! I hope your students will enjoy this fun phonics word sort! 10 words are provided (5 short “o” sounds, and five long “o” sounds). It is their job to determine the correct column to place the words in! I used the visual aids of a donut (a long “o” word) and chocolate (a short “o” word) to both give them engaging examples, and hopefully a lasting memory of the difference between the two sounds. You can start referring to short “o” sounds as “chocolate words!” and long “o” sounds as “donut words!” as they continue to practice these phonics words—my students loved these categories! I hope this will be helpful to your class as well. Enjoy, and happy teaching!
