Quickly and easily add a dash of art history to your kindergarten, first, or second grade classroom! The Looking & Thinking with Art series each feature a masterwork paired with critical thinking questions that guide young learners through the Feldman method of art criticism (describe, analyze, interpret, judge). The levels of questioning are similar to Bloom's taxonomy.
Each PDF presentation can be displayed on a whiteboard (interactive or not) so that students can write or draw in response to the questions. This activity can be used with the entire class, or with small groups and centers. Engage students' observation and questioning skills with the slides, then get your students' creative juices flowing with the included art activity prompt. Also included is a teaching guide, background information on the artwork, and list of online resources to continue your classroom exploration.
In this presentation, explore the exquisite Renaissance painting of a stag beetle by German master, Albrecht Durer. Integrate this lesson with your classroom studies of natural science, animals, and insects. Students will enjoy studying this highly detailed painting that was created before microscopes or cameras were available for artists.
