No one ever thinks that Wile E. Coyote is a scientist when watching Looney Tunes cartoons. However, Wile E. does science in every episode in his quest to catch the roadrunner!
In this activity, students will watch an episode of Looney Tunes and complete the following tasks:
1. Identify the independent and dependent variables.
2. Write a possible hypothesis for each example.
3. Choose one of the examples and apply the steps of the scientific method.
After completing tasks one and two, students will choose one of the experiments Wile E. Coyote set up and apply the steps of the scientific method. Students can also choose to create their own experiment for the coyote to try and then apply the steps of the scientific method to that experiment.
This activity includes:
Identifying independent, dependent and constant variables in a fun, unique format
Hypothesis writing- If/then, because format
Application of scientific method- writing a problem/purpose question, writing a hypothesis, identifying variables, listing materials used, writing an experimental procedure, and drawing conclusions.
