Take “Show and Tell” to a whole new level with this Lord and Lady Linguist Program, which is aligned to the Common Core standard. With a heavy focus on Oral Language Development, speaking on topic and in statements and question formats, your class will love this fun and engaging program.
Each day, a different child is crowned “Lord or Lady Linguist”, and get to bring home a tote bag in which they can place a special object inside. The object should be something that is special to the child, and will help the class to get to know your child.
When the Lord or Lady Linguist brings their item in to share, they practice speaking in complete and on-topic sentences. The rest of the class practices being a good audience. When the Lord or Lady Linguist is done telling the class about their item, the class may ask him/her questions about the item. The first few times, they needed reminders of how questions begin, what a question is, that the question should be about the Lord or Lady Linguists item, etc. After questions, students can make comments about the item. I write a few of their sentences about their item onto chart paper. I take a picture of them holding their item and post it.
My class has loved this program this year, and I have loved getting to know my students on a personal level.
