Students complete the following three step activity after reading Chapter 9 of Lord of the Flies once for comprehension:
1. Close read or "second draft" read of Chapter 9 to record a list of imagery and figurative language Golding uses to describe nature.
2. Make connections between the imagery and figurative language used by the author and what was happening among the boys at the time.
3. Write an analysis paragraph which uses the connections they made as evidence while explaining what each connection means or why it's important.
