PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

Watch your students have a higher-order discussion about characterization and conflict in The Lord of the Flies when you use these two activities! To begin, students work in small discussion groups to classify characters from William Golding's classic novel using 7 terms of characterization (protagonist, antagonist, dynamic, static, flat, round, and foil). Students are encouraged to "prove" their opinions using events from the novel to support their opinions. Your students' knowledge of characterization can be assessed at the beginning of the next class period using a brief "What I Thought You Taught" journal activity that is included! Then, move on to conflicts as students work in small groups to decide which common conflicts are represented in the novel. Students then demonstrate knowledge of internal and external conflict. Finally, students must choose a conflict that is most significant in the play, and support their opinion using a quotation from the novel. The next day, you can assess understanding of conflict by having them complete the "What I Thought You Taught" Journal Activity.
