In this assignment, students will assume the character of one of the boys on the island in William Golding's Lord of the Flies. As the character, students will write a persuasive speech to give to the other boys on the island. This assignment requires students to use details and evidence from the text and apply what they have learned about persuasive writing.
The assignment comes when students have already learned rhetorical appeals, concessions, rebuttals, and other persuasive techniques. Assignment can be changed based on what you have done or not done in class.
Includes pre-writing questions, outlining space, questions for peer review, and a rubric. Should be done over the course of a week and some should be completed out of class.
