I love using morality scales to help my students analyze character motivation, personality, and growth.
This activity includes:
A PowerPoint introduction to morality. Along with the definition there are various situations and actions which students must identify as being moral or immoral. This works great as a whole-class activity with individual answers or with pairs/group.
PDF of character faces (Jack, Simon, Piggy, and Ralph) to be cut out and placed on morality scale.
Worksheet with morality scales – one for the beginning of the text and one for the end of the text. Students can visually see how a character has changed throughout the text or they can see how characters have not changed throughout the text.
Accompanying questions to analyze who changed most and why, who changed least and why, and what this all means for the theme of good vs. evil.
*Answer sheet is not included since answers will vary. I tell my students their answers are right as long as they can back them up with support from the text.
