Make classic literature a hands-on experience with this post-reading characterization activity for William Golding's novel Lord of the Flies. To begin with, students individually delve into the novel as an allegory by labeling characters with the symbols they represent. Students provide 3 examples for each label they assign. Next, students further "dissect" their characters (even those who aren't dead yet) by providing quotations, illustrations and descriptive phrases about their character. The group portion of the activity has students filling the body outlines of their character with all the evidence they have found.
