This is a structured, 3-part lesson on symbol analysis (for beginners). The activity starts off with a mini lesson about symbolism, moves into group work (initiated by opening an envelope or brown lunch bag), requires that each student write an analysis paragraph, and culminates in each group sharing out what they learned. This packet contains a PowerPoint, objectives, step-by-step directions, all necessary handouts and note-taking guides, and a simple rubric. Spoiler alert: Make sure students have read through chapter 11 before doing this activity. The example paragraph discusses Roger and what he did to Piggy.
