Common Core Aligned. This collection of resources is designed to help facilitate students understanding and determining a theme or central idea of a text and analyzing in detail its development over the course of the text, including how it emerges and is shaped and refined by specific details within Lord of the Flies. PPT slides and lecture instruct a student with the knowledge of theme vs. thematic subject. The "F.I.N.D." method for theme analysis, combined with a graphic organizer/flowchart, provide a step by step process to evaluate literary elements as the tools of developing theme in literature. Bloom's Taxonomy prompts provide a platform for students to interact with and evaluate the theme relative to student experience and real world circumstances.

After (or at certain points during your reading of the novel) use the graphic organizer to facilitate students understanding of literary elements and their connection to themes within the work. Perhaps model how to use the graphic organizer with using a novel they have read in the past, or model how to use the organizer by starting each section for the students. Have them work in groups, dyads, or individually to complete the organizer.
Have students complete the organizer as a classroom activity or as homework.
Use the Blooms Taxonomy Questions to further develop or assess student understanding of the themes present in the novel.
