This game can be used as an open ended board game with other skills or questions to practice, or it can stand alone as a game that targets practice in following directions. The rules are simple. Each student puts a game piece (not provided) on the Sun. Each student takes a turn drawing a direction card that tells them where to go. Moves are made with a left to right orientation of the board, just as in reading text. Asteroid cards will send them backwards, and shuttle cards will rocket them forward to the next planet. One winning card sends a student directly to Pluto. The first student to get to Pluto wins!
Students will review or be introduced to our solar system while playing. They will also learn and practice the following vocabulary used in directions they hear presented in the classroom daily:
Forward, Next, Ahead, After, From
Back, Backwards, Preceding, Previous, Before
End, Last, Final
First, Second, Third, Fourth, Fifth
Under, Below, Beneath, Underneath
Blank cards are included so you can add your own directions, questions, or other skills to practice.
