This is a 2-page reflective assignment I do with all of my classes at some point early in the school year. It is based on Gary Chapman's concept of the 5 Love Languages. The 5 Love Languages explain how a person feels most loved and accepts love most effectively. They are as follows: Gift Giving, Quality Time, Acts of Service, Words of Affirmation, and Physical Touch. You may either give this worksheet to students to complete in class (if internet access is available for each student) or assign it as homework. There are 7 reflection questions on the worksheet (some questions have multiple parts) that ask students to do things such as list their love languages, give descriptions of each one, reflect on people in their lives who might have a similar love language, etc.
Each student will take the assessment online via the link provided (there is one specifically designated for teenagers) and complete the reflective questions on the worksheet. At the beginning of the following class, I usually have students each share what their top Love Language is and write them on the white board so that the class can see how their classmates receive love best. I then lead a short discussion about what students have discovered about themselves and others through this project. The students always love learning more about themselves and their peers, and they have lots of great insight to give. It is especially good as a Get-to-Know-You activity early on in the school year.
