Do your students have the opportunity to use Chromebooks one-on-one in your classroom and you want a great way to monitor their progress with their novel journal during the Novel Unit of Lowji Discovers America? I created this Excel document which provides a great opportunity to teach the students how to work with this program. If you use Google accounts, download it into your Drive, share it with your students, and ask them to make a copy changing the name with their own names. This also allows them to work in partners by sharing each other's journals and working together throughout the novel study. They can also share their copy with you to provide immediate feedback by using comments. Let's them explore this exceptional novel by using technology. It includes a tab you can use to introduce the novel, where they will make a short research about India, and tabs to identify characters' traits, motivations, feelings, descriptions, to record Lowji's silver linings, Indian Words, and American Expressions that Lowji learns, and where they can include their notes about the novel. You can modify the original file to fit it to your own novel study journal with your students.
