Your students will love this fun way to practice comparing 3-digit numbers! Luck of the Roll! is a hands-on partner activity. Students will each roll a die. They record the number rolled first in the ones place, then roll again, recording the number rolled in the tens place. Finally, students roll another time and place that number in the hundreds place. The biggest number is the winner!
For a fun twist, I added game templates in which the biggest number wins for games 1-5, but the smallest number wins for games 6-10. My students prefer playing it this way!
I also added games which have students compare numbers to the thousands place, as an extra challenge.
How I use it in my classroom:
My students LOVE this game! I walk around and gather data on my students. I watch for proper direction-following, observe if students read numbers correctly, check for understanding of the concept, and watch for understanding that you must look to the place(s) to the right in case students roll a tie for the hundreds place. I hope your students enjoy it as much as mine do!
