This can be used with ANY mystery! I made this form for my students as we did Lucy Calkins' Mystery Unit in the If...Then Curriculum book. It uses the Claim Evidence Reasoning format from our science curriculum and incorporates some GATE depth and complexity thinking stems.
I began by modeling the form with our class mystery read alouds. We read from Ron Roy's Capitol Mystery series, Encyclopedia Brown books and You Be the Detective as I gave mini lessons about clues, evidence, suspects, motive, alibi, red herring, and writing a theory. When it was clear that the students were comfortable with the form, they would complete this form as they read mysteries at their reading level with their reading partner.
Later, as a class assessment, I read aloud one mystery from You Be the Detective and had students fill out this form.
