Hello my fellow first grade teachers! Welcome to the world of Lucy reading! It’s always exciting to get a new program under way that can enhance and enlighten the knowledge of our students that sit in front of us every day. I have completed my first year of Lucy’s first grade reading and enjoyed it immensely. She has created a well thought out program, which is very exciting to the children as well as something they can relate to. Her strategies really seem to stick with practice and repetition.
With this purchase you will be able to receive a breakdown of each lesson (cliff notes) to the point that you will not have to read through the lengthy manual books that she has provided. Each lesson plan provides step by step instruction that will assist in teaching each lesson.
I have also provided pictures of my anchor charts and other ideas that you will need to post in your room as a reference. These anchor charts are to assist in your guided practice and you will refer to them often. You will also see parts of “me” throughout. That means that some things didn’t come from Lucy, but are my ideas that I added to each lesson to enhance, motivate and provide excitement for the children. I will note these parts of me as I go along. For example; Lucy has provided for you in your reading kit large sticky notes with the strategies that you will be using for your anchor charts. I backed these onto card stock and ran them through the laminator so they will last for a life time of teaching. All you need to post them on your chart is a piece of scotch tape.
In closing, I hope you find these cliff notes helpful in your everyday teaching. I know that as teachers, we have demanding days and schedules, and we all want to spend our time at home with our families and friends and not be married to our jobs on our own free time, so please use these lesson plans as if they were your own. I can promise you that you will be able to teach every lesson without even opening her books. Enjoy your time, we teachers need to stick together! Please let me know if this helps.
