Are you looking for a no-prep, age-appropriate Lunar New Year ESL Lesson? These differentiated reading and listening comprehension passages are simple to assign digitally or in print, and will provide engaging practice for your English Language Learners! Students will love learning about New Year’s traditions, finding their zodiac animals, and sharing what they’ve learned!

This resource is not specific to this year! It can be used in your classroom year after year.

Please note that while the resource mentions that Lunar New Year is celebrated throughout Asia, it only includes Chinese New Year traditions.

Three Levels of Text Support All Your Students

⭐ Each level of comprehension includes age and level-appropriate text and questions. Differentiating has never been easier!

Audio Allows Students to Work Independently

⭐ Audio clips read the text and questions aloud, allowing all students to work independently, regardless of reading level!

Common Theme and Facts Throughout

⭐ All three levels of text have the same theme and facts, allowing for whole group or small group conversations between students of all levels. Questions and texts can also be mixed and matched for further differentiation!

Audio Only Version for Specific Listening Practice

⭐Use the audio-only version to support students in their academic listening comprehension.

Vocabulary Slides and Cards for Easy Instruction

⭐ Included vocabulary slides are color-coded by part of speech alongside a definition and the part of speech. The printable card version is great for independent practice, games, word walls, and more!

Tips, Tricks, and Troubleshooting Guides

⭐Included guides share how to determine student levels, ideas for using the resource in the classroom, and an audio troubleshooting guide! Some school districts require media file sot originate in the teacher’s Google Drive, so original audio clips are also included, along with a guide to quickly replacing them for student use! (Note: Most districts don’t require this, but it’s a 5-minute fix!)

Want to try before you buy?

This resource includes the same components as this Lunar New Year Lesson (minus the zodiac animals!) Try it with your students, test out the audio component, and see how it goes!
