"Lunch with Law Enforcement" was born after an officer was killed in the line of duty in our small community. I knew I had to do something to create positive change for future generations. Many students in my class only know law enforcement officers as the people who take family members away from the home, or someone who will take them away if they are bad.
I wanted my students to realize that our officers are somebody’s Mom, Dad, Son, Daughter, and neighbor. Our students need to see the human side of law enforcement. I took this idea to my school’s PTA and they jumped on it, offering to pay for any uniformed officer’s school lunch on that day. This has since become a quarterly event and has greatly increased the relationship our students have with local officers.
