When my 9th grade students see the reproductive cycles of viruses, they are often intimidated by the confusing, unfamiliar steps. In this project, my students learn the steps of the lytic and lysogenic ets will be cycle by creating videos. The students serve as the actors/actresses and compare the lytic cycle to a more relatable circumstance, such as a girl using a guy for concert tickets. The might compare the lysogenic cycle to a forty-year-old living at his mom's house. The rubric ensures that students will be scientific and include/explain all necessary steps. The kids blow me away every year with the caliber of their scientific explanations, acting skills, and knowledge of creating videos. I provide the students 2 days in class to plan their skits and then require them to complete the rest of the skit outside of school.
