Children often confuse letters M, N and H. Lowercase h gets mixed up with lowercase n and m and n are very similar in look and sound! Children will sort the letters M, N and H written in various fonts and will also sort CVC words that start with these letters. The CVC words all have a middle vowel of ‘a’ or ’i’. I do this word sort in November of kindergarten when we have already covered CVC words with short ‘a’ and are learning about short ‘i’. (Short ‘e’ is saved for later due to its similarity to short ‘i’.) So, as the kids are sorting have them sound out and read each word.
