MA2 for High School - Settling the West
This is written as a one week lesson for High School students. The lesson covers the importance of mining in the west, the development of "company towns", and labor relations in mining communities. Also covered are the development of the cattle industry and railroads, the impact of each on land use in the west, and the Indian Wars during the post Civil War era until the final action at Wounded Knee. The lesson contains the reading for the lesson, map identification, comprehension questions, essay questions, a mapping activity, a table for a graphing activity, two fill in the blank reviews and two quizzes.
