MA2 for Jr. High & ESL - Settling the West
This is written as a two week lesson for junior high and ESL students. The lesson covers the importance of mining in the west, the development of "company towns", and labor relations in mining communities. Also covered are the development of the cattle industry and railroads, the impact of each on land use in the west, and the Indian Wars during the post-Civil War era until the final action at Wounded Knee. The lesson contains four separate reading assignments, each with key vocabulary terms, comprehension question, and an essay question. The lesson also contains map identification, two fill in the blank reviews, a mapping activity, a time line, chart for graphing activity, and two quizzes.
