This unit is a comprehensive Mask Making unit, with instructional videos, handouts with photos, and 4 x 60-minute lesson plans. This unit is recommended for art classes, drama classes and upper-elementary classes.
ABOUT MASK WORK
In theatre, masks are worn on the face to disguise, for performance, and/or entertainment. When students begin mask work, they quickly realize that they very dependent on their faces and voices for expression and communication. Whilst wearing the mask, communication will be a challenge for students and eventually, they will need to resort to using their bodies to communicate. Mask work is beneficial for students who may feel insecure and hindered with moving their bodies and encourage them to explore bodily expression in order to communicate.

The Golden Rules of Mask Work
There are rules when using masks and it is essential for any students using masks to quickly learn and adopt them. Once students learn the rules, they will have a valuable tool in their drama toolbox which will serve them for work with Commedia dell’Arte, Greek Theatre, Noh Theatre, and work with Neutral Mask.
LICENSING TERMS: This purchase includes a license for one teacher only for personal use in their classroom. Licenses are non-transferable, meaning they can not be passed from one teacher to another. No part of this resource is to be shared with colleagues or used by an entire grade level, school, or district without purchasing the proper number of licenses.
