This is a fun, interactive way to review State Testing Objectives. Not only do students get to move around, they get to work as a team to practice math objectives. The questions were written for 8th grade Pre-algebra students in TN, but would be appropriate for several grades below and above depending on their aptitude.
MATERIALS: Paper ball, trashcan with clean liner, this PowerPoint, and a great attitude. I usually have a student keep score on the white board. If the class is large, I have each student record the answer to each question with notes for a ticket out the door. My prizes include homework passes, bonus points, candy, special privileges, etc.
The PowerPoint includes the following topics:
Distance = Rate X Time
Linear and Nonlinear Functions
Rational VS Irrational
Systems of Equations
Ordering REAL Numbers
Operations with Scientific Notation
Determining Best Buy
The PowerPoint could also be used alone as review or practice. It would make a very nice math center. I have added animation, clip art, sounds, etc to engage the middle school student!
