MIDDLE / HIGH SCHOOL MATH ESCAPE ROOM #2

This escape room activity is an exciting and engaging way to review or practice various math concepts either when returning back to school, at the end of the year, between units, or as a fun activity for any day of the week!

With summer coming to an end, your parents have decided to send you to a one week refresher camp in the remote country side in what was long ago a boarding school. While exploring the building you and your friends enter the forbidden room and soon find yourself locked in! There is a small electronic panel beside the door which appears to be the only way out. It's time to search around this bizarre room to see if you can find any clues about the number code needed to escape the Mathematician's Asylum.

This bundle contains five work stations with various puzzles students must decode and work through to escape the room. This escape room is designed to last one full class period. The math required to solve the puzzles is appropriate for both upper middle and lower high school levelled students; however the complexity of decoding the escape room is designed to challenge and engage students in the math classroom.

Math topics covered in this lesson include:

• Understanding angle measures (up to 360 degrees)

• Working with all operations on whole numbers

• Order of operations

• Basic understanding of exponents (i.e. 34 = 3 x 3 x 3 x 3 = 81)

• Substituting values into equations and solving

• Understanding whole number positive coordinates on a Cartesian plane (Quadrant 1 only)

• Identifying missing numbers in number patterns

Simply print the materials and you are ready to set up your escape room. The only additional materials needed to complete this activity is student access to a computer (only one computer needed for the entire class) and a couple of envelopes for one station.

Note: computer must be able to access Microsoft excel.
