Product Description

Money: US Coins, Time, Add, Subtract, Place Value, Regrouping, Decompose, Balanced Equations, 120 Charts, Base Ten, Number Lines, and more!

**Decompose for Balanced Equations**

Use this with Kagan Groups in your centers or take hard copy data as a formative assessment.

Centers: students will roll 2 dice and place the numbers in the base of the balance. They will decompose the number two ways and write those expressions on wither side of the balance.

*Helpful Hint: I place my dice in a small water bottle with glitter or food coloring to make a “magic dice” shaker. This keeps the dice from flying off the desk and causing a racket. Students shake the bottle, hold the bottle up, and use the numbers they see on the bottom of the bottle.

ASSESSMENT: Additional worksheets with prewritten sums for assessment.**TEACHER PREP**: Centers: place worksheets in sheet protectors for use with dry erase markers, provide dice. Assessment: Print and go!

Assessment: distribute worksheets, communicate the numbers of choice

CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.OA.A.1 CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.2.NBT.B.5

**Balancing Equations**: addition / subtraction board game

**Number Detective**: Place Value / Regrouping Unit

This unit includes FOUR SCAFFOLDED LEVELS! The unit takes students through the foundational level of place value and regrouping and prepares them for the abstract.

Use the levels**THREE WAYS**: Tic Tac Toe, Scavenger Hunt, or Seat Work. All games include student answer recording sheets to ensure accountability with center work or provide you with hard copy data for formative assessments.

Includes a task card answer key for peer monitoring in centers (tic tac toe).

Includes a work mat that can be used with ANY place value, regrouping, adding or subtracting work.

Students will use the work mat to compose the numbers and then record them on their answer recording sheet.

BONUS: Tic Tac Toe game can be used with ANY flash cards! Place board in sheet protector and use with dry erase markers -OR- use two-color counters to place on the board. Students will choose a card, tell the answer to the opposing player or team. The opposing player or team will check the answer for accuracy before allowing the player to place their X or O on the board. Great for peer monitoring and math discussion!

4 TASK CARD LEVELS

**TEACHER PREP**: place student work mats and tic tac toe board in sheet protector for use with dry erase markers (or use counters to mark Xs and Os)

Students will use concrete models or drawings and strategies based on place value, to compose and decompose numbers and relate the strategy to a written method. The student will understand that it is sometimes it is necessary to compose or decompose ones, tens or hundreds.
