This is a 22-slide PowerPoint presentation I use to introduce place value basics to my 5th-grade students. The PowerPoint includes examples and independent practice (with answer keys) after each individual concept. It also includes a "Pop Quiz" (with answers) at the end to cover all concepts. The concepts covered include:
4) Standard Form,
5) Word Form (with instruction on hyphenating two-digit numbers and in placing commas properly in word forms), and
6) Expanded Form.
I am also working on a few other PowerPoint place value presentations that I will post in upcoming weeks:
1) Expanding 3 Ways: a) 562 = 500 + 60 + 2; b) (5 x 100) + (6 x 10) + (2 x 1); and c) (5 x 10^2) + (6 x 10^1) + (2 x 10^0)
2) Place Value with Decimals (with expanding all 3 ways included)
3) Place Value Conversions (i.e., 30 tens = ___ thousands)
I will also be putting together some bundles of worksheets and tests along the way.
